Online TV Guides

In the past, the tv guide was solely a supplement that came with a weekly newspaper. Now, however, there is a multitude of magazines dedicated specifically to provide a viewing schedule.

Somehow though, even with new publications that deal exclusively with programmes shown on the television, the TV guide remains not particularly user friendly. Notoriously badly written and full of mistakes, the TV guide is not the clarifying piece of literature that it proposes itself to be.

Granted the problem usually comes from the programmers themselves, and not from the writers who simply transcribe the viewing schedule and publish it. When the printed TV guide is wrong, it is more often than not the fault of altered planning.

This changeability inherent in the television line-up makes print a problematic medium in which to publish the guide. Once the words are laid down on the page, they cannot be altered to match alterations in programming, and the result of this incompatibility is, of course, errors.

The internet, however, is a flexible platform for publication. For this reason, internet TV guides are bound to be more reliable because these can account for alteration in the schedule. Thus, those keen on absolutely accurate, and up to the minute information about the day's programming will do well to consult an online site, and to ditch the printed TV guide and its tendency to be wrong.
